Bayern Munich have won the Bundesliga with two games to spare after nearest rivals Bayer Leverkusen failed to beat Freiburg. It is the Bavarian’s 33rd Bundesliga title and the first under trainer Vincent Kompany.

Dortmund appoint Kovac as trainer

Nico Kovac has been confirmed as the new trainer of Borussia Dortmund. The 53-year-old, who led Bayern Munich to the Bundesliga and German Cup double in 2019, has joined Dortmund on an 18-month deal.

Manchester City have signed Eintracht Frankfurt striker Omar Marmoush in a deal worth €70m. The 25-year-old Egyptian scored 15 goals in 17 Bundesliga games this season and has signed a four-and-a-half-year deal with the reigning Premier League champions.

Borussia Dortmund sack Sahin

Borussia Dortmund have sacked trainer Nuri Sahin following the club’s 2-1 Champions League defeat against Bologna. It was the fourth defeat in a row for Dortmund, who are now in 13th place in the Champions League and languishing in 10th in the Bundesliga. Dortmund’s U-19 trainer Mike Tullberg has replaced Sahin on an interim basis.

Union Berlin sack Svensson

Holstein Kiel move to strengthen defence

Supercup to be renamed after Beckenbauer

The German Supercup is set to be renamed after Franz Beckenbauer. The trophy, which is played in August between the Bundesliga champions and the winners of the German Cup, will be known as the Franz Beckenbauer Cup.

Hansen-Aaröen leaves Werder Bremen

Isak Hansen-Aaröen has joined Danish club Aalborg on loan until the end of the season. The 20-year-old Norwegian has made just three Bundesliga appearances since joining Werder Bremen from Manchester United in February 2024.

Greuther Fürth have sacked trainer Alexander Zorniger and sporting director Rachid Azzouzi following the 4-0 home defeat against Nuremberg. Fürth’s U23 trainer Leo Haas will take over as first team coach on an interim basis until the winter break.

Tuchel named England manager

Thomas Tuchel has been named as the new England manager. The 51-year-old, who has signed an 18-month contract, said: “I am very proud to have been given the honour of leading the England team. I have long felt a personal connection to the game in this country, and it has given me some incredible moments already.” Tuchel, who won the Champions League with Chelsea in 2021, will officially take charge of the England team on 1 January 2025.

Bayern Munich began their Champions League campaign with a 9-2 victory over Dinamo Zagreb. Harry Kane scored four (three penalties) with Raphael Guerreiro, Michael Olise (2), Leroy Sané and Leon Goretzka on the scoresheet.

Labbadia appointed as Nigeria coach

Bruno Labbadia has been appointed as the coach of the Nigeria national team. The 58-year-old, who has coached various Bundesliga clubs including VfB Stuttgart, Hamburg and VfL Wolfsburg, was chosen ahead of Gustavo Poyet, Aitor Karanka and Fabio Cannavaro.

Christoph Daum dies aged 70

Former Leverkusen, VfB Stuttgart and Cologne trainer Christoph Daum has died aged 70 after a long battle with cancer. Daum, who won the Bundesliga title with Stuttgart in 1992, trained a total of nine clubs over a 30-year career.

Bayer Leverkusen win Bundesliga opener

Bayer Leverkusen have won the first game of the Bundesliga season in a 3-2 victory over Borussia Mönchengladbach. The reigning Bundesliga champions were 2-0 up at the interval with goals from Granit Xhaka and Wirtz. In the second half, Nico Elvedi and Tim Kleindienst scored for Gladbach to make it 2-2. In the 11th minute of injury time, Wirtz scored the winner for Leverkusen from a rebound after his spot-kick was saved by Jonas Omlin.

Hans “Hanne” Weiner dies aged 73

Ex-Hertha Berlin and Bayern Munich defender Hans “Hanne” Weiner has died aged 73. Weiner played for Hertha Berlin from 1972 until 1979. He joined Bayern Munich in 1979, winning the Bundesliga title twice. In 1984, he signed for Chicago Sting before returning to Hertha Berlin in 1986. After retiring, he ran the pub “Hanne am Zoo.”

Hull City sign Chris Bedia on loan

Union Berlin striker Chris Bedia has joined Hull City on a season-long loan. Union Berlin signed the Ivory Coast international from Servette FC last January and he has made seven Bundesliga appearances, scoring one goal.

Tom Krauß leaves Mainz 05

Kamara leaves Dortmund

Abdoulaye Kamara has left Borussia Dortmund to join Portsmouth for an undisclosed fee. The 19-year-old midfielder joined Dortmund from Paris Saint-Germain in 2021 and although he did not play for the first-team, he made 48 appearances for Borussia Dortmund II scoring two goals.

Leverkusen win German Super Cup

Bayer Leverkusen have won the German Super Cup after beating VfB Stuttgart 4-3 on penalties. After 90 minutes the score was 2-2 with Victor Boniface and Patrick Schick scoring for Leverkusen, Enzo Millot and Deniz Undav scored for Stuttgart. Leverkusen’s Martin Terrier was sent off.

Bayern Munich advance in German Cup

Bayern Munich have eased into the second round of the German Cup following a 4-0 victory over SSV Ulm. Thomas Müller (2), Kingsley Coman and Harry Kane scored for the Bavarians.

Kramer released by Borussia Mönchengladbach

Christoph Kramer has left Borussia Mönchengladbach after his contract was terminated by mutual agreement. The 33-year-old defensive midfielder, who was part of Germany’s World Cup winning team in 2014, played just 252 minutes for Mönchengladbach last season.

Brighton & Hove Albion have signed Brajan Gruda from Mainz 05 for €30 million. The 20-year-old, who has made seven appearances for Germany’s U21s, has agreed a four-year contract with the Premier League club.

Manchester United have signed Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui from Bayern Munich. The Red Devils have paid €45 million for centre-back de Ligt and €15 million for right-back Mazraoui. Both players known Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag from their time at Ajax.

Denis Undav has joined VfB Stuttgart on a permanent basis after agreeing a deal with Premier League club Brighton & Hove Albion. The fee for the 28-year-old striker, who scored 18 goals in 30 Bundesliga appearances for Stuttgart last season, is reported to be around €27 million.

Dortmund crash to 4-0 defeat in friendly

Borussia Dortmund crashed to a 4-0 defeat to Thai club BG Pathum United in the opening game of their pre-season tour of Asia. Dortmund played a weakened line-up, although Karim Adeyemi, Youssoufa Moukoko, Julian Brandt and Niklas Süle all featured. Both sides made ten substitutions at half-time.

The Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 achieved record ticket sales in the 2023/2024 season. Between August 2023 and May 2024 over 20.7 million tickets were sold with average ticket sales of 33,885 per match.
